Crunchy Fallen Leaves Playlist

I may have a reputation for the same songs showing up over and over again in my Monthly Wrap Ups, but I am also a sucker for a good playlist. I use themed playlists for reading, setting the vibe for cleaning, and coming up with inspiration for other projects. I made a short playlist during Blogtober last year, and although I really wanted to try and not have repeat prompts, music taste is always evolving.

From day to day we may listen to a song five times in a row, and then wake up the next day and can’t stand it anymore. So an updated Autumn Playlist gets a pass for repeat prompts. This season, I named the playlist after one of my favorite features of the Fall season: Crunchy Fallen Leaves.

I have many memories of walking home and trying to find the biggest, crunchiest leaf to step on. It is so satisfying. Add in the atmosphere of the sweet smell of the dying leaves, slowly falling off of their branches in sweeps of yellow, orange, or red, and you have a core memory. Autumn is so cinematic because there much more rapid movement that catches the eye.

The blur of falling leaves in the wind reminds us of the slow months to come. I wanted to pick songs that reflect that subtle knowing of the future. Let’s get into it.

Reflections by The Neighborhood

The Neighborhood and this album in general is so Autumn coded for me. This has an R&B inspired sound and has the same drums and has the same drum beat as Sweater Weather. Reflections, though, is a song I’d pick for a fall playlist over the popular Sweater Weather. The lyrics “We were too close to the stars” is perfect for playing around a campfire or stargazing as the weather cools down.

September by Trask

This is a new to me song, and the title is a little bit late for when this playlist will be posted, but I love the vocals and it is a song about autumn coming all the same. I am obsessed with the way Trask puts emphasis on the ending “er” of many of the verses. Something about it is very satisfying. The song is great, but the stripped down version is the one I have in my playlist. Autumn is for acoustics!

Something In The Orange by Zach Bryan

Something In The Orange is what you hear when you wake up early in the morning, and walk out during the few moments before the sun seeks out out from the horizon. This is a country song, so it may not be for everyone, but Zach Bryan has a very good voice that could span multiple genres if he wanted to pursue them. That feeling of melancholy, but anticipation encapsulates what the fall feeling is for me.

Cowboy Gangster Politician by Goldie Boutilier

This is another new song for me. The central theme of this song is very Fleetwood Mac inspired, even repeating the lyrics “You can’t get away from a woman that loves you”, but with a totally different sound. Where Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac is eclectic, Goldie’s song brings a small town, americana sound that I really like.

Everlong by Foo Fighters

Who doesn’t like Everlong by the Foo Fighters? This song feels like a memory- I wouldn’t be surprised if I heard this song in a soundtrack of a high school TV show. It feels warm yet the vocals give a sense of pensiveness. I can lay with this song on repeat in my headphones and just think.

On your next autumnal walk, play one of these songs. Let me know if you feel similarly about them as I do! And never ever miss the chance to step on a crunchy leaf. Until tomorrow, see you all soon.
