October DIYs I’ve Done & Some I Want To Do

We are attempting to make a voice memo a blog post, because I’ve been trying to eat my steps in lately and I walk for an hour and feel like I don’t get anything done. I just speak into my phone and with its built-in transcriber, I paste it into WordPress to edit and format everything to make the most sense. So what will be the topic for the first Walk n’ Talk? October DIYs and crafts! Let’s get into it:

Ghost Window Silhouette

The first October DIY that I want to do is a ghost silhouette window decoration. I found it on TikTok, where I rend to find most of my inspiration. You take cardboard, you draw ghosty shapes on it on it, or it could be any shape really. It would be cute to see pumpkins or other Halloween icons like a werewolf silhouette!

You paint it black, cut it out, and tape it to the window. You can also add colored lights for added atmosphere and to highlight the ghosts even more.

This “want” turned into a “did”, and I love how it came out!

Witch Hat

This craft is also one that I already did, because I’m a little bit Halloween happy! I guess you could say I’m a little bit enthusiastic about Halloween, much like how people start to celebrate Christmas in November. I will say that I am not a big Christmas holiday person. I don’t want to hear Christmas music until a week before the 25th.

This DIY is another one that I found inspiration from on TikTok. I have a lot of fabric scraps, and I’ve been wanting to get back into sewing for a while now and this was the perfect excuse to get back into it.

While looking for inspiration, I found a few different designs for the witch hat. One was like one whole piece of fabric, while another was neatly quilted with perfect squares. Finally, I found one that was a scrap patchwork quilt style and since I am not a pro sewing or quilting, the patchwork really just felt like it would hide all my mistakes.

I plan on making a tutorial for this hat when I make my boyfriend one of his own. Warning, I am the most Type B person ever, if you value precise measurements and pretty right angles, I am sorry. My tutorial will be for those who throw things at the wall and hope for the best, you will cringe and wonder how my own hat even came to be the right shape 😂.

Slip-On Dog Bandana

Along the lines of sewing, I also want to make dog bandanas that slip onto the collar.

You fold the square diagonally, you measure the collar width, and sew a line down the bandana. Then thread the collar through, and that way you don’t have to worry about tying the bandana. It’s not bulky, and the dog can’t rip it off as easily.

It seems more efficient in terms of dog accessories. There is a dog bandana that Tori wore and it slipped off and it’s been in the yard.

You can do it with any fabric, it doesn’t have to be Halloween themed or fall themed. I kind of plan on doing that with a few of Tori’s bandanas.

Paper Crafts

That is all for sewing ideas that I have so far. The next thing are some paper crafts!

An easy craft that I want to do are make some paper bats. You can buy these, but if you have black construction paper or black paint you can easily make them yourself and tape them to the wall.

Next is a paper pumpkin Garland. I think there are a few different ways you can do this one. You can make them similarly to how you make the paper bats, or you can glue paper strips together and it will be three-dimensional. I’ve also seen someone make a pumpkin Garland out of toilet paper rolls that they painted, cut up, and glued together.

Another one that I’ve already done is a printable coloring sheet that you cut into bunting, or I’ve always just called them triangle banners. This is super easy and relaxing to do while watching TV. I did a few triangles with no line work as well, so you don’t need a printer for this craft.

The last one that I have in my list so far and I really want to do, but I’m not really sure how yet, is a “paw-kin” patch! How cute is that. You put your dog’s paw in some orange paint and stamp it down on paper, then you paint on the pumpkin stems and grass.

I am obsessed, but Tori has very hairy paws, so I’m not sure about clean up yet. Maybe I will do it on the same day she has a bath.

That is all of the crafts and DIYs that I have thought of so far. I will probably come across more as October goes on!

What have I been up to, making some of these DIYs in advance? I’ve been making all my Halloween crafts and decorating my room. And then once October 1st hits, I transfer them to my boyfriend’s apartment. That was the rule, but I don’t mind haha.

Have you made anything Fall themed yet?
