I recently saw a TikTok that had text that said “One thing about January is that it makes sure you feel all 31 of its days”. January seems like the longest month ever, and is in a close race with September, being the second longest. I blame it on being the middle of winter, when it finally plunges down into what will be the coldest temperatures of the season, the time when a lot of us grow tired of the chill.

For me, this mid-to-late January has been filled with a sore throat and the sniffles, and that honestly does put a damper on my already blue January. The thing is- nothing bad necessarily happened this month, and while it may be the most uneventful month I’ve had in a while, it hasn’t been filled with bad events. And I know that I am depressed year round, so I also don’t think it’s seasonal depression either haha. Maybe it’s just the boredom!

It is too cold to do something outside, and my inside activities take a couple of hours max until I need to take a break. Does anyone else feel mental fatigue like that?

Even though it has been a long January, some good things happened at the beginning of this month: Snow! I loved seeing the blanket of snow outside of my window, especially the morning of the first snowfall, before it has been touched by footsteps and snow plows. I spent the first snow day doing many of my hobbies, such as making Zines, writing blog posts, and my new hobby, baking freshies, or car air fresheners.

During the snow days were my two younger siblings’ birthdays. My brother turned 19 on the 6th and my sister turned 6 on the 9th. After the snow melted enough for me to drive my car, I drove down to attend my little sister’s birthday party.
This was her first birthday where he could invite her school friends, so it was held at a bounce house place. She even convinced me to go down a slide with her friends, who I assume did not have a 22 year old older sister by the way they gave me odd looks haha! My sister was so happy to introduce her friends to me, but unfortunately I am a little too old for them to be interested. It was amusing for me, and I think she had a great birthday.

That was pretty much the extent of the fun and excitement of January, with the remainder of the month being a repeat of themselves, and immersing myself in my new hobby.

I listened to so much music this month. Every single song on this list was listened to upwards of 100 times each, I just couldn’t get enough. I always have a Country kick mixed in with whatever else I am into for that month, and I am not disappointed with my brain’s selection. Justin Bieber is certainly a surprise, I don’t think I’ve listened to him since I was around 10 years old. Near the end of January, I was in a 10 Years mood which has continued on into February. They are coming to my city in May, and I am tempted to purchase tickets.
My goal for February is to continue to grow and learn. I want to continue therapy and break through things that are keeping me from knowing myself and being secure. Let me know how your January was in the comments, I look forward to hearing from you!
Until next time,
Katelyn

Nice music selection! The colder months definitely feel more blah to me too. But I’m planning out some early spring activities to keep my mind focused on the good days ahead.
