Before I sat down to write this wrap up post, I thought there wouldn’t be much to write about or that I didn’t do that much this month. But after I started going through my gallery trying to remember all that I got up to in the month of May, I realized that I did quite a bit! My month began with end of semester exams and moving out of my dorm that I lived in for 2 years, but honestly I wasn’t that sad about it. Dorm life is not for me.
Throughout this month, I have sped up selling unwanted clothes on Depop as well as working my summer job as concert security. This month really feels like it sped by before I could enjoy more of a list of media and books, however I did manage to read one book this month. Most of my time has been spent listening to music and my taste changes by the week, leading to a large mash of different music every time I plug in my music in my car. If I had passengers I would feel bad for them haha!
Moving out of my college dorm happened at the beginning of this past month and every single year I think I bring less items, but when I move out it always feels like I have way more than the previous year. Sending my guinea pigs home before moving out saved a lot of space, so all of my dorm items fit in the back of my mom’s truck. Thanks mom!

Once I went home it was time to start preparing my brother for his high school graduation. He celebrated with Dairy Queen and a cake that had a secret roll of money inside that he pulled out. One thing that makes my brother stand out is that while other graduates went on their phone after walking the stage, my brother clapped for every single one of his peers, and he was the only one that did. He didn’t want the party to end after, but as I know all too well, college takes a lot of summer preparation .

May is the start of the concert season at the venue I work at, so my summer job is in full swing. I work security for concerts, which means that I stand at gates and give people directions. Fortunately I do not have the job of tackling anybody!
Every single May, my family and I travel to Muskogee, Oklahoma to attend the renaissance festival. It is probably my favorite annual summer activity apart from swimming. I love dressing up and seeing everyone else’s costumes and outfits. There’s many activities around the castle and many buildings for shops in which you can buy all of your mythical and medieval gear. Multiple performances happen at any given time around the grounds which include music, belly dancing, sparring, dancing around the Maypole, and most notably the parade among many other performances.

This year, we went on Memorial Day, so we got to see a special Memorial Day edition of the parade which was more solemn than others. Every year I like to focus on a different thing, sometimes it’s the shops, this time it was food. I tried many new things this year including alcoholic drinks which I had not been able to enjoy in previous years haha. I didn’t go crazy but I did have fun trying a seltzer and a “peach beach” cocktail. It was so hot that day that drinking a lot of alcohol wasn’t really something I wanted sitting in my stomach. I also tried an iced chai tea as well as my classic annual order of vegan falafel, my favorite!
This month I managed to read a single book, Little Fires Everywhere. I rated it 3/5 stars on Goodreads and while it was enjoyable, it just wasn’t my favorite book. I wish there was more actual character development in the end but to be honest, even after the main catalyst event happened, they all went back to being the same characters that they were. It was kinda a flop for me, and I attempted to watch the TV adaptation and couldn’t do it.

I have been on a huge Kings of Leon kick this past month, as well as more country. Take Me as I Come feels very relatable to me, so I played that on repeat like no other. Fall out Boy does not match this set of songs for May, but my music taste is very all over the place!

This month was a season of adjustment to being home, working, and having some fun. For the month of June I want to focus on being uncomfortable, and it doesn’t mean in a bad way! There are many patterns and self sabotaging behaviors that I want to work on overcoming, and in order to do that I need to make myself feel comfortable being healthy! It sounds crazy but that is so difficult, but I am slowly making habits to lessen my negative impact on both myself and others.
Progress is not linear, but it is a climb. Sometimes it feels better to lay down after we fall, but it feels even better to get up and keep climbing to the top. I have some exciting things happening in the month of June which will be so much fun to write about, including the vacation of my dreams!
So I’ll see you in my next post, whether it be about mental health or events in my life or whatever’s on my mind.
Thanks to all of my friends and mutuals for reading and/or interacting with my posts, I appreciate you all so much.

It’s good to see you back, Katelyn, you’ve been very busy! Best wishes for your brother. I remember graduating high school, it was fun but byeee! We used to go the the renaissance festivals in Michigan years ago, they were so much fun! Try to imagine actually living in those days. I was wondering if you had to tackle crazy people while at work, I’m glad that you don’t have to! Happy June, be well!

Thank you! Yes, I think my brother likes being able to create his own college schedule and sleep in for the first time! All I can imagine about the time periods that renaissance festivals are based around are the SMELLS. So thankful for clean running water and good smelling soap haha.
