The Complex Subtlety of Clouds pt. 1

In the mastered art of self sabotage, right as I wrote out that I would have a schedule, I didn’t write for a month.

However, a lot of things have happened since my last post.

My long awaited Costa Rica trip was only postponed due to the recent worldwide events, so that is something to cheer about, and another thing to look forward to in the endless turmoil that is life.

Speaking of turmoil, today’s topic is about clouds. Being a true enneagram 4, I am a mood swinging, deep life purpose seeking, migrane inducing contemplator, and my muse for the past two years have been clouds.

Here’s what gets me: The cloud you see in the sky in this moment, you will never see an exact replica of again. Ever.

This “revelation”, persay, never not makes me depressingly nostalgic. To the point where I stopped gazing at clouds for a little bit.

But I missed the clouds, so for the past month I have taken pictures of the sky whenever I felt especially nostalgic, and I played around with a new app along the way, which will be featured in the next cloud segment.

Our cloud journey begins one beautiful morning when I could’t resist not capturing these purple clouds in my high school’s parking lot. While the sky was more pink than what was captured, this unedited shot perfectly encapsulates being half asleep for most of the school day.

Ok so maybe the urge to capture the clouds just happened to occur while driving on a back road, but in retrospect, I am starting to realize the correlation between the clouds I decide to capture to my feelings that day. Yes, I’m saying I control the weather, there’s no way I can be told different at this point.

In all seriousness, the correlation only happens when I choose to take a picture, which probably explains why I took the picture in the first place. In this case, I had just dropped my bestfriend off at her house, and I was wondering how long it would be until we saw each other again, since she is making another big move before the end of the year (hey, bff haha).

So the contrast between the light and darker parts in the clouds could represent my happiness that we got to hang out, but apprehension regarding the future.

Wow, wow, wow. The layers included in this quick neighborhood shot are unreal. This photo was taken after an attempted trip to return my library books, which was unsuccessful. The layers of the feeling of unusually empty roads and thinking about how unnatural life feels at the moment are covered up with filler things to keep us occupied. This one is my favorite of the trio.

I’ve decided to spare the rest of the photos I intended to include in this belated post, but never fear, there will be more of my over-analyzing commentary on mediocre photos of clouds in future posts, even if it takes me a month to do it.

I definitely have other topics I can’t wait to write about, because niches are for losers ;), and if you enjoyed this moody post then please leave a comment saying your favorite photo out of the three!

There are still adventures to be had, and I’ll see you there! -Katelyn

  1. I adore the 3rd cloud pic the most… it definitely displays the totality and range of moods you can possess in a single moment of time. But, that’s what makes you beautiful.
