What’s On My Trinket Shelf

Another walk, another voice memo blog post. In an effort to feel productive while reaching my daily health goals, I have decided to try to blog via transcribed voice memos while I get my steps in. I just talk into my phone which has an audio transcriber, and I put the text into WordPress and edit out the typos to make the post more cohesive.

Today, I want to talk about my trinket shelf. I am a little trinket collector, I love my trinkets. It is prime time to dust my trinket shelf, so I figured I would take you guys along!

My trinket shelf is a mix of sentimental items and also just things that I like and have held onto throughout the years. My goal with dusting the shelf is to rearrange and try to have a rotation of trinkets. I am also hoping this will help me to remember to dust them more because I have not dusted the shelf since it was put up, which was about a year ago.

Here is the shelf before dusting. At the very top, I have some of my larger items. Those are just boxes of stationery, the one in the back that you can’t really see is a Monet card and envelope set. The JFK one in front is postcards. The larger box featuring JFK and Jackie in the convertible is a letter set as well. I got those 2 JFK box sets at the Museum in Dallas. I don’t talk about it a lot here on my blog, but JFK is my main “Roman Empire”.

Everyone has that one history piece that they kind of fixate on. JFK and the Kennedy family in general is that history piece for me. And then below that I just have stuff that I’ve accumulated/made/childhood things.

Oh, and I also have a random bone I found lol. I feel like it is a cow vertebrae because I found it at a creek that has a bunch of farmland around it. I’m not too sure, if you know bones, you can tell me.

On the shelf’s wood I have some pressed pennies. I love pressed pennies, but I never know how to display them or what to do with them, so I just put sticky tack on some of my favorites and put them on the actual wood of the shelf. I have one from the Alamo:

One from SeaWorld, both of those came from San Antonio when I went in 2017.

The last one is a JFK one. Probably also from the museum at the Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas.

I have some photos of the shelf pre-dusting, but I’m not sure if I will include them just because of the dust, I kind of feel embarrassed showing the griminess! But if I do I will just tell you that this first photo is kind of the “abundance” corner. I have a Branson pressed penny that I haven’t stuck onto the wood yet, Hello Kitty, and a little cup teacup.

Some of these things I don’t even know where they came from.

Inside the teacup are a collection of dollar coins. I have a Canadian 5 dollar bill, and also Brazilian currency. I have a Ukranian dollar somewhere, but I’m not sure where it is.

On another shelf, I have salt dough imprints of my cat’s paws. I have 2 cats, Nacho and Chrissy. I don’t speak a lot about them because, you know, cats do their own thing. I don’t really have a lot of activities that involve the cats, because even if I did, they would not give two hoots about it.

These next photos are a closer overview of the shelves before I take everything off.

Other than that, I wanted to have a spotlight for my most favorite things that are on my trinket shelf. The first thing that I wanted to share is this Littlest Pet Shop. This is not my original one, but it is the same thing that I had when I was a kid. I remember I used to flap the wings all the time. And this is not a fake. This is a real vintage, I can’t believe I am saying the word “vintage”. I’m so old.

It is my one of my favorite childhood toys, ever. I am so mad at my old self who thought that I was too cool to keep my old toys. I want to see some things again so badly.

Anyway, the next thing that I wanted to highlight is this trumpet mouthpiece, which was my great Grandpa’s. He lived to be 97 years old, and he served in the Army. I think he had just missed World War 2 when he came of age, but he did serve in the military.

I also believe he was in a quartet. I may be misremembering that, but he had a whole bunch of stories, and I wish I did remember. He lived a very adventurous life.

Next, I wanted to share a photo of the Brazilian note, look at how beautiful it is.

And here is a look at my Teacup, with my dollar coins in it.

I don’t know why, but this Star Wars figurine is one of my favorite things on the shelf. I have never seen Star Wars, either. I stole this from my little brother, with his permission, many years ago..

I just love this guy, he looks so cute. If any of you guys know what character this is, let me know. Is he a good guy, bad guy, or a side character? I don’t know, but I love how he looks like a little frog.

I included a random photo of this lucky pig with some lucky pennies beside him. Can you believe that they discontinued production of the penny? If you’re in the US and you have a US penny, keep them close to your heart, because there will not be any new ones being produced.

Then, I have some random confetti from high school musical productions. I honestly couldn’t even tell you what production they are from. The fact that they have withstood countless moves and are still intact is enough for me to keep them.

Here is the after photo:

As you can see, a lot of stuff did not get put back on the shelf. And that’s okay, it’ll probably get rotated out, like I said, I wanted to rearrange things. To where some things were put up and I can bring them back out at a different time and just get some variety every time that I remember to dust.

I like the more open look. I didn’t add any new things. Except for the Harry Potter figurines at the top, those were on my 12th eleventh birthday cake.
