Music is one of the most important parts of my everyday life. Music comforts me, encourages me, hypes me up, and makes me mad, and I can make all of those feelings happen in less than thirty minutes. The lyrics understand me, but the instrumental puts me on a different planet at times. I love heavy bass, drums, and guitar, as well as electronic sound.

I have such a wide range of music genres and styles that I like, but what really captures the fall essence for me? I have painstakingly selected a few songs that portrays fall through my eyes. I say painstakingly, because it was so hard to choose. I have only written one other playlist post, and that was 5 years ago, so I think it’s definitely time for a new one:

When choosing songs, I really wanted to choose songs that had that more soft sound, but had something kind of transcendental about it. I am not a musician by any means but the multiple instruments in “Duvet” by Boa really captivates me, and the bridge just makes me feel like there is a cool breeze flowing across my face. The lyrics also really speak to me. While fall is a time of multiple holidays, the shorter days and darker colors make it seem a little melancholy.

Tame Impala may not be what many consider a “soft sounding” music artist, but it is once again that transcendental feeling of this song. While in “Duvet”, there was a high pitched instrument that aided this feeling, in “Borderline”, it is Impala’s higher voice that takes the cake. This has a more upbeat atmosphere, and I imagine walking with a little more purpose among the leaves on a nice fall day. You get lost in yourself and end up walking too far, wondering “How did I manage to end up in this place?”.

A little bit of whiplash never hurts, right? These songs are in no specific order, I just listed them using my heart, and yes I agree that it is a little bit of a jump from “Borderline” to “Like Real People Do” by Hozier. This song takes us back to that melancholy feeling of dark asphalt and wet leaves. It is a little bit spooky if you listen to the lyrics closely as well, which is perfect for October and has the perfect feeling of floating with the background singing near the end of the song.

“Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac is such a classic song for any season. But when I think of the twirling leaves falling from trees, how they can sometimes catch the stream of air and sway to the floor, it reminds me of the hippie dance styles of the 70’s. I would also have a little energy in my walk if I had this song on while outside, even if it was raining I think this song would make me not mind the weather as much!

“Reflections” by The Neighborhood is a long-time favorite of mine. Listening to it on a night drive makes me feel like I am floating. I feel like a lot of people know The Neighborhood for their popular song “Sweater Weather”, but they have a lot of great tracks that I enjoy. My favorite parts of songs would be the bridge and the bass. This song checks both of those boxes for me. Who doesn’t love a hard hitting beat with angelic vocals?? And again it has that melancholy feel that reminds me of Fall.

The last song that I’d listen to to get me in the spirit of the season and is an addition to my Fall playlist is “Let Down” by Radiohead. While these songs are not in a particular order, I would definitely put this song last. It is a calming song with mellow sounds and vocals. Listening to this song on a windy day and watching the leaves fall outside would be blissful. This is a good song to read a book while listening to as well.
