What Do You Want?

Want is a human attribute. Animals in the wild rarely ever “want”. The things they do are for survival, because they don’t have room to want, only to survive and reproduce. When we want we yearn, wish, desire, and it causes us to drift off into a state of jealousy. Want is the root cause of jealousy. When we are jealous, we desire to be something or have something that we don’t possess yet, or that we may never possess.

Want is a part of what makes us human. I want to feel love for longer than just my childhood, I want to give love and to see people smile. I want to have the chance to be successful, and to help others succeed. I want to be able to educate others on real life events and how we can save each other through our actions. What I want, no wild animal wants. What humans want is complex and often misinterpreted.

We are not animals, yet we tend to act in a way that portrays us as primal. For out of jealousy we hurt both ourselves and others. We steal and we cheat, we lie and manipulate. We do this to get what we want.

We are not animals. We have a more complex understanding of the world around us, and our internal workings. We have the power to change jealous wants into wants for equality, wants for community and support. We have the power to dissect our jealous tendencies and to change them, so why don’t we?

We are human, and we have the power to change our thoughts and to change our actions and to want things that are beneficial for more than just ourselves. Humans aren’t lone creatures, we are social. We thrive in community, and so our wants should compliment what we need.

Our wants should be heard and understood, because that’s what makes us human.
