Eclipse Totality and Notes on Spring

“To everything turn, turn, turn, there is a season, turn, turn, turn.” – The Byrds

That song is how I feel every spring. What once left has returned, leaves are green, pollen in the air, a sense of rebirth and new life. That is one word for spring, “new”.

On the 8th I looked towards the sky at the total eclipse. It was my first time experiencing an eclipse in the path of totality. My town prepared for an insane influx of tourists and business for eclipse weekend, and my college put on a variety of events leading up to it. However, I think the amount of visitors was overestimated greatly, because all day there were little to no cars on any major highways. Who would want to come to a smaller city in Arkansas when totality was going to happen in Dallas? I’d rather go to Dallas than Little Rock.

It was definitely an experience unlike any I’ve had before. As the moon eclipsed the sun, everything began to darken around me, almost like a sunset or a really cloudy day. Then it felt like the darkness sped up and it was REALLY like a sunset, around us was dark while on the horizon you could still see the light where the sun still reached. It was so strange, darkness in the middle of the day. At the time of totality I removed my solar eclipse glasses and stared directly at the sun. While it felt like the lead-up took a while to get dark, after totality the brightness returned very quickly.

Is it just me, or does every spring bring up old problems? For the past couple of years it feels like certain people or situations come out of hibernation to bother me. And somehow the issues are always along the same lines as the previous year! I thought that spring represented new growth, fresh opportunities, and a chance to “air out” and refresh yourself from being holed up all winter in our caves.

In any case, this year I didn’t entertain this issue and squashed it the moment it resurfaced in my life. I’m really hoping that I passed the test this time, and that the remainder of this spring and going into summer continue smoothly. Does anyone else have that issue? Or was it just my personal annual “Spring Test”? In the beginning of this post when I described spring as “What once left has returned”, I was not just saying that, it is a truth in my life, but I wish it was limited only to returning flowers and warmth.

I have not been able to post these past couple weeks because I lost my charger, however I am back! I’m sad about losing my weekly posting streak but I’m happy to finally be able to add memories to my little corner here on WordPress. Thank you for reading, I’m excited to be able to interact with my friends here again!

  1. Welcome back, Katelyn! there are things from my past that occasionally come back around and I find it very bothersome. I just don’t want to deal with that stuff just like you don’t. The eclipse was non-existent here on the West Coast, oh well.

    • Thanks for reading! My town thought the eclipse was going to be a huge deal, while it was cool for us who were local I didn’t expect a lot of travelers from other states to visit. Maybe they would if they were within an hour of where it was going to reach totality but I didn’t see many cool license plates that day haha.
